I met this adorable little family from the Denver Promise Walk for Preeclampsia.  The Sunday before Mother’s Day, many people gather at City Park to support, educate, remember, and most importantly raise awareness of Preeclampsia and the multitude of mothers and babies it effects each and every year. For the past 5 years, I’ve worked with them, I’ve seen it grow, seen how many lives it’s changed, seen how many more people participate each year, and seen the number of sponsors grow; it’s a testament to the amazing contribution from the coordinators and volunteers. This is a disease which has forever changed our family’s life and so many other families.

I spent the session asking Allison about the story and how Preeclampsia changed her life and the birth stories of her little boys. Her story was very similar to mine and it’s a great reminder that Preeclampsia and HELLP syndrome can affect any and all women in different ways. Her oldest son was born at 31 weeks, 9 weeks early, and weighing 3lbs. 2oz.  During our session, he was so energetic and a joy to be around! If you are or have a soon-to-be mother, are a mother, sister, wife, best friend; please educate yourself and loved ones. This disease knows no race or age and effects everyone differently. Find out symptoms or how you can help saves mothers and babies at Preeclampsia Foundation.
